Trinity Men's Tennis Pulls Away From Bates

Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams swept the bottom half of the singles ladder to turn a 3-3 tie into a 6-3 victory over the visiting Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's tennis action this afternoon inside the Ferris Athletic Center Field House.  Trinity improves to 8-7 overall and ends its NESCAC slate at 4-4, while snapping a four-match losing skid.  Bates drops to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the league with its first loss in three matches.

Trinity led, 2-1, after doubles play highlighted by an 8-1 victory by junior Musyoka Mbithi (Orange, N.J.) and sophomore Ford Traff (Wayzata, Minn.) at the No. 2 spot.  The Bobcats took two of the first three singles matches to tie the match at 3-3, before Traff won in straight sets at No. 5 to give Trinity a 4-3 lead.  Mbithi won a closely contested No. 4 match for the clinching point, and senior tri-captain Kayong Lee (Villanova, Pa.) made his season debut, after missing almost his entire senior season with an injury, with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 6 singles.
