Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams swept the bottom
half of the singles ladder to turn a 3-3 tie into a 6-3 victory
over the visiting Bates College Bobcats in New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's tennis action this
afternoon inside the Ferris Athletic Center Field House.
Trinity improves to 8-7 overall and ends its NESCAC slate at 4-4,
while snapping a four-match losing skid. Bates drops to 7-9
overall and 3-4 in the league with its first loss in three
matches.
Trinity led, 2-1, after doubles play highlighted by an 8-1
victory by junior Musyoka Mbithi (Orange, N.J.) and sophomore Ford
Traff (Wayzata, Minn.) at the No. 2 spot. The Bobcats took
two of the first three singles matches to tie the match at 3-3,
before Traff won in straight sets at No. 5 to give Trinity a
4-3 lead. Mbithi won a closely contested No. 4 match for the
clinching point, and senior tri-captain Kayong Lee (Villanova, Pa.)
made his season debut, after missing almost his entire senior
season with an injury, with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 6
singles.
