Women's Hockey Blanks Hamilton, 4-0

Box Score

Clinton, N.Y. – Senior tri-captain Lauren Fitzgerald (Milton, Mass.) scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Trinity College women's hockey team to a 4-0 victory versus Hamilton in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Russell Sage Rink. With the win, the Bantams avenge yesterday's setback to improve to 10-4-1 on the year and 3-4-1 in league play, while the Continentals fall to 7-6-3 overall and 1-5-2 in conference tilts.

Trinity held a 38-13 advantage in shots on goal, registering 10 or more in each period en route to their seventh win outside of Hartford this winter.

Between the pipes, Trinity first-year netminder Sydney Belinskas (Port Orange, Fla.) stopped all 13 shots she faced to record her third shutout of the season and her fifth win. On the opposite end, Sam Walther made 34 saves in a losing effort for Hamilton.

After playing the first 20 minutes scoreless, junior defenseman Shelby Labe (Pine Brook, N.J.) gave Trinity a 1-0 advantage just under 10 minutes into the second with her first tally of the season. The eventual game winner was unassisted and was the first Bantams goal versus the Continentals in almost 90 minutes of action this year.

In the third period, the Bantams stretched their lead and put the game out of reach with a trio of markers. Junior forward Shannon Farrell (Kennebunk, Maine) gave the visitors a little breathing room and a two-goal edge five and half minutes into the final stanza with Fitzgerald recording the primary assist.

Down the stretch, Fitzgerald served as the closer for Trinity as she potted two goals to give her nine on the season. First-year forward Kelcie Finn (Weymouth, Mass.) assisted on Fitzgerald first tally to make it 3-0 and senior tri-captain Lily Gacicia (Milton, Mass.) had a helper on the final goal of the contest.

Trinity returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 27, with a non-conference road game versus Saint Anslem. Following the tilt against the Hawks, the Bantams will have a weekend conference series at Colby, Jan. 30-31.
