Trinity And Western Connecticut Tie In Men's Soccer

Box Score

Danbury, Conn. - Junior goalkeeper Domenic Quade (Norwood, Mass.) made five saves and went unscored upon over 110 minutes of play, as the visiting Trinity College Bantams tied the Western Connecticut State University Colonials, 0-0, in double overtime this evening at Westside Athletic Complex.  Trinity extends its unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1) and moves to 5-4-3, while the Colonials are now 4-6-2 snapping a three-game losing skid.  The Western Connecticut State University and Trinity College men's soccer teams battled to a 0-0 double-overtime tie at The Westside Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.

In the first half, Trinity junior forward Dan O'Neil (North Potomac, Md.) had a close chance in the 14th minute, firing wide left on a 2-on-1 versus Colonial sophomore goalie Austin Tierney (East Hampton, Conn.) after a nifty pass to him on the left wing by junior midfielder Tobias Gimand (Fairfield, Conn.).  Bantam senior Mark Perreault (Southborough, Mass.) rattled off two shots in the 33rd minute, but the first was saved by Tierney and the second was cleared by senior back Chris Jeffrey (Norwalk, Conn.) from the open goal.  Western Connecticut was victimized by three offsides calls on offensive threats in the first half, and Quade thwarted a blast from the left flank by junior back Zachary Slomski (Colchester, Conn.) with a diving stop in the 34th minute of play.

The second half was relatively quiet until Quade made another diving stop, saving a low shot by Colonial rookie forward Chauncey Allers (Wilton, Conn.).  Sophomore back Lucas Saunders (Middletown, Conn.) added a rolling shot that missed just left of the post with 10 minutes remaining in regulation, before the Trinity offense increased its intensity and controlled the ball for the vast remainder of the contest. Gimand had a rocket from just inside the box knocked away by a Colonial defender in the 81st minute, and Trinity senior forward Josh LeBlanc (Manchester, Conn.) nailed a bouncing ball off the post to the right of Tierney's shoulder inside the five-minute mark.

Neither team had a decent chance in the overtimes, as Trinity could not capitalize on back-to-back corner kicks in the second extra session and Allers was stymied by Quade on a hard bid from the top of the box in the final minutes.  The Bantams outshot the home team, 19-11, and had 12 corner kicks to three for the Colonials including five in the extra time, while Tierney finished with seven saves for Western Connecticut.
