Men's Soccer Earns First Conference Win, Beats Bates 2-1

Box Score

Lewiston, Maine - Two first half goals were enough to push the Trinity College men's soccer team past the Bates Bobcats in Saturday afternoon's New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup. Trinity improves to 3-4-3 overall, earning their first conference victory of the season, while Bates drops to 5-2-1 on the season and loses their first home game all year.

The Bantams got on the board first thanks to a goal from junior midfielder Dan O'Neil (North Potomac, Md.), who kicked in a deflection past Bobcat goalie Sam Polito (Far Hills, N.J.) just two minutes in. Bates answered O'Neil's goal with one of their own from Max Watson (Yarmouth, Maine) who headed in a cross to knot things up at one.

Trinity took the lead for good in the 43rd minute of the first half as Tobias Gimand (Fairfield, Conn.) buried a loose ball in front of the net in the back of the goal to put the Bantams up 2-1.

Trinity goalie Domenic Quade (Norwood, Mass.) recorded eight saves on the afternoon, earning his first victory of the season.

Trinity returns to the pitch on Tuesday, October 6, as they travel to Wheaton (Mass.) to take on the Lyons. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
