Hartford, Conn. – Junior forward Shannon Farrell (Kennebunk, Maine) scored two goals and added an assist as the Trinity College women's ice hockey team downed No. 6 Amherst, 5-2, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action on Sunday afternoon inside the Koeppel Community Sports Center on Williams Rink. With the win, the Bantams improved 13-6-2 overall and 6-6-2 in league play, while the Lord Jeffs moved to 15-3-4 on the year and 9-2-3 in conference tilts. The victory was third this season for Trinity versus a nationally ranked foe.

The Bantam line of Farrell, senior tri-captain Lauren Fitzgerald (Milton, Mass.) and first-year forward Kelcie Finn (Weymouth, Mass.) were buzzing all afternoon as the trio combined for three goals and five assists. Finn tied a career-high with three points on three assists, while Fitzgerald potted a marker and picked up a helper.

Senior Emily Flom and first-year Brenna Sullivan led the offensive charge for Amherst as both skaters scored a tally and recorded an assist.

Just over four minutes into play, the Lord Jeffs opened the scoring as Flom slammed a rebound past Trinity first-year netminder Sydney Belinskas (Port Orange, Fla.). A minute after Flom's goal, the Bantams tied it up as Fitzgerald buried her 11th marker of the season. Late in the first, senior tri-captain Lucy Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) took the puck coast-to-coast along the left boards and fired a wrister that beat Amherst first-year goaltender Sabrina Dobbins as Trinity took a 2-1 edge into the first intermission.

In the second period, the hosts stretched their lead to three as Farrell scored a pair of goals. Her first proved to be the game winner as she skated in the offensive zone following a turnover and ripped a shot that found the back of the net. The goal came just under five minutes into the period and chased Dobbins from the contest. Farrell's second of the period came on a rebound in front of sophomore Yuma Evans who was on in relief. In the second period this year, the Bantam are outscoring the opposition, 26-11.

Early in the third, the Jeffs pulled within two as Sullivan netted her 10th of the winter. Both teams would have power-play chances in the stanza, but neither was able to break through. With just over three and a half minutes remaining in regulation, Amherst pulled Evans in favor of an extra attacker. The visitors peppered Belinskas with shot after shot, but the freshman was able to stand her ground. Trinity put the game out of reach at the 18-46 mark as junior Cheeky Herr (Princeton, N.J.) scored an empt-net goal for her team-leading 16th goal of the season.

Belinskas turned aside 36 shots to earn her eighth career victory for Trinity. On the opposite end, Dobbins made 11 saves in a losing effort for the Jeffs and Evans stopped 14 shots in relief.

Amherst held a 38-30 advantage in shots on goal and went 0-for-4 on the power play. On special teams, the Bantams were unable to convert either of their two power-play opportunities.

Trinity concludes the regular season next weekend, Feb. 20-21, with a home-and-home series against in-state and conference rival Wesleyan. The Bantams will host the Cardinals on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and end the regular season with a contest in Middletown on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
