Box Score Hartford, Conn. - Both teams netted goals within the first 20 minutes of the game, however neither could break the 1-1 tie as the Trinity College men's soccer team and the Western Connecticut State Colonials played to a draw on Tuesday afternoon in Hartford. Trinity moves to 6-4-1 on the year while the Colonials sit at 3-7-1 overall after today's result.
The Colonials scored their lone goal in the fourth minute after a corner kick taken by WCSU sophomore Chauncey Allers (Wilton, Conn.) bounced around the box before junior Nick Kyriakidis (Sleepy Hollow, N.J.) controlled it and sent it past Bantam senior goalie Domenic Quade (Norwood, Mass.) to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Trinity responded in the 18th minute when freshman defender Michael Burns (Oreland, Pa.) sent a long pass from near midfield to sophomore midfielder Sam Hoffman (Greenwich, Conn.) just in front of the Bantam bench. Hoffman, with a clear line of sight at the goal, sent a beautiful chip shot over Colonial goalie Luca DiCarlo (Waterbury, Conn.) that snuck just under the top crossbar of the goal to even the game at 1-1.
Trinity had a good opportunity late to win it as senior Fernando Cuervo-Torello (Arlington, Mass.) lined up over a free kick just outside of WCSU's box, however his shot curved around the Colonial defensive wall and into the waiting arms of DiCarlo.
Both Quade and DiCarlo played strong in net to preserve the draw as Quade finished with five saves and DiCarlo with eight.
Trinity returns to action this weekend as they host New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponents Middlebury on Saturday, and Tufts on Sunday.
