Amherst, Mass. - First-year Colette Scheffers (Flossmoor, Ill.) collected 18 kills and 10 digs to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-1 victory over the SUNY Canton Kangaroos in the Volleyball Hall of Fame Tournament at Lefrak Gymasium on the campus of Amherst College this afternoon.  Trinity, which also lost, 3-1, against the University of Massachusetts-Boston Beacons this morning and won, 3-0, against the Emmanuel College Saints last night, finish the tournament at 2-1 and move to 10-11 for the season.

Trinity recovered from a 25-22 setback in the opening set against Canton State, but rallied to win the next one by the same score and take the third and fourth, 25-18, and, 25-14, respectively.  Senior tri-captain S Randi Whitham (Weymouth, Mass.) added 44 assists, two aces, and 13 digs, while junior Claudia Varner (Port Washington, N.Y.) had 11 kills with a .346 hitting percentage and three blocks, and rookie Wyllie Boughton (Andover, Mass.) added 10 kills, four aces, and 18 digs for the Bantams.

Against Mass.-Boston, ranked No. 3 in New England, Trinity jumped out to a 25-22 lead in the opening set.  The Beacons edged the Bantams, 25-22, in the second set, won the third, 25-14, and the fourth, 25-16.  Boughton and fellow first-year Carter Stancil (Orem, Utah) paced Trinity with 11 kills apiece, while Whitham notched 26 assists and 23 digs, and sophomore Rachel Underwood (Danville, Calif.) added two aces and 17 digs. Underwood represented Trinity on the Hall of Fame Invitational All-Tournament Team.
