Men's Soccer Triumphant in Overtime to Open 2016 Season

Box Score

Nashua, N.H. – After nearly ninety-seven minutes of scoreless soccer, senior captain Oliver Murphy (Montclair, N.J.) finally found the back of the net to lift the Trinity College men's soccer team over Rivier University on Tuesday night in the Bantams 2016 season opener. Trinity starts the year 1-0 for the fifth consecutive season while the Raiders fall to 0-1.

Trinity outshot Rivier by a staggering 34-2 clip on, with 14 of the 34 shots coming on goal. Senior goalie Domenic Quade (Norwood, Mass.) got the start in net for the Bantams and turned aside the lone Raider shot on net, late in the first half. Rivier freshman goalie Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) single-handedly kept his team in the game as he managed 13 saves in his collegiate debut, including three impressive, point-blank shots off the foot of Bantam senior captain Tobias Gimand (Copenhagen, Denmark) in the second half. Gimand was relentless in his attack for Trinity, as he led all players with seven shots on goal, but was unable to convert any chances into points.

Murphy's game-winner came 6:58 into the first extra period thanks to a botched clear attempt by the Raiders. After a Rivier mishandle just outside the top of their box, Murphy collected the ball and pushed it past an outstretched Deyarmin to send the Bantams home victorious.

Trinity returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, against Williams in the team's first New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) game of the year.
