Danbury, Conn. – Trinity College senior tri-captain Tim Peng (Taipei, Taiwan) found the back of the net in the 45th minute to lift the visiting Bantams to a 1-0 victory over the Western Connecticut State University Colonials at the Westside Athletic Complex in men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon. The win snaps an eight-game winless streak (0-7-1) and lifts the Bantams to 2-8-1 overall while the Colonials drop to 7-6. Trinity, which wins on the road for the first time since Oct. 19 of last year, returns to action on Wednesday for a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rivalry game at home against the Wesleyan University Cardinals. 

Rookie Henry Belt (Brookline, Mass.) tested the Western Connecticut goaltender early with a rocket shot on goal in the fourth minute of the game. Senior tri-captain Cody Savonen (Orleans, Mass.) also put pressure on the Colonial goaltender with two shots on goal during the match. With 48 seconds remaining in the first half, Peng collected a loose ball in the box and put it away for his first career goal. Later in the game, freshman Dagoberto Nunez Jr. (Central Falls, R.I.) beat a Colonial defender down the line for a close-scoring opportunity. The Bantams outshot the Colonials, 18-11, and earned five corner kicks to just three from Western Connecticut State.

After halftime, the Colonials picked up the pace, but could not penetrate the Bantams' defense anchored by Belt, Charlie Olson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), Chris Monnes (West Hartford, Conn.), Alex Steel (Weston, Mass.), and senior tri-captain goaltender Mateo Zabala (Medellin, Columbia). Zabala picked up his third blank slate of the season after making two saves in net. His counterparts, Western Connecticut State goalies Luca DiCarlo (Waterbury, Conn.) and Daniel Szabo (Trumbull, Conn.) split the game evenly and finished with a collective four saves.
