Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams swept the third wave to hold off the visiting Drexel University Dragons in women's squash action this afternoon at Kellner Center. Trinity, ranked No. 2 in the nation, improves to 4-0, and will host George Washington in its final match of 2017 tomorrow at noon. No. 9-ranked Drexel drops to 4-5 heading into a 43-day layoff.
Drexel won two of the first five decisions to take a 3-2 lead more than halfway through the match, but the Bantams rallied to take the final four points. Senior co-captain Jenny Haley (Newport, Wales), sophomore Min Jie Teh (Klang, Malaysia), and first-year Sahari Lopez (Zapopan, Mexico) won by 3-0 scores down the stretch, and rookie Amina Taher (Alexandria, Egypt) eked out a 3-2 triumph at the No. 7 spot in the lineup near the end.
Drexel had one its damage at the bottom of the ladder with 3-0 wins by Apoorva Adepalli and Emma MacGillivray at No.'s 8 and 0. Trinity sophomore Akanksja Salunkhe (Vasco da Gama, India) and rookie Nadia Usenko (Kiev, Ukraine) collected early points for the Bantams with 3-0 victories. Ona Prokes won in five games over Trinity junior Lakeesha Rarere (Hastings, New Zealand) to give the Dragons their early advantage.
