Trinity Men's Tennis Loses At No. 13-Ranked Wesleyan Despite Pair Of Doubles Triumphs

Middletown, Conn. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams put a scare into the No. 13-ranked Wesleyan University Cardinals, taking a 2-1 lead after doubles play before falling, 7-2, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's tennis action this afternoon in the first-ever match at Vine Street Tennis Courts.  Trinity falls to 5-5 overall and 0-4 in the NESCAC with its third loss in a row, while the Cardinals improve to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the league.  The Bantams will host No. 4-ranked Williams on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. in their next match.

Trinity senior co-captains Rex Glickman (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Kyle Scheffers (Flossmoor, Ill.) gave a heroic performance at the top of the dobles lineup, upending 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Quarterfinalists Cam Daniels and Zach Fleischman by a score of 8-5.  The Bantam rookie duo of Chris Bilicic (Chicago, Ill.) and Granville Kaynor (New Orleans, La.) broke the serve of their Cardinal opponents and kept the momentum throughout for an 8-6 win at third doubles, but the home team collected an 8-4 triumph at the No. 2 spot to avoid the doubles sweep.  Wesleyan recovered to all six singles matches, including five in straight sets, although Scheffers gave Daniels all he could handle in the No. 2 match.  Scheffers registered a decisive, 6-2 win in the opening set, but lost the second, 6-4, and the tiebreaker, 10-2.
