Trinity Field Hockey Posts Third Shutout In A Row With Win Against Connecticut College

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams posted their third consecutive shutout victory with a 4-0 win over the visiting Connecticut College Camels in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action this evening on Sheppard Field.  Trinity, ranked No. 18 in the nation, improves to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC, while the Camels fall to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in the league with their fourth setback in a row and their 13th loss in a row to the Bantams.  Trinity hosts NESCAC rival Bates in its next game on Saturday at 11 a.m., preceded by a ceremony to re-dedicate Robin L. Sheppard Field.  Connecticut College hosts No. 13-ranked league foe Williams on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Trinity peppered Camel freshman goalie Jackie Mountford (Sherborn, Mass.) with 31 shots, including an early one for the game's first goal by junior Nicole Quinlan (Duxbury, Mass.) 3:50 into the game.  Senior co-captain Ally Slowe (Medfield, Mass.) assisted on the play.  Solimine later fed rookie midfielder Caelin Flaherty (Upton, Mass.) for her first career goal 14:18 left in the half that gave the Bantams a 2-0 lead.  Trinity senior Lori Berger (Scottsdale, Ariz.) made a great save late in the first half on a shot by Connecticut College freshman Colleen Rafferty (Dover, Mass.) to keep the shutout intact heading into the break.

In the second half, sophomore forward Kendall Brown (Greenwich, Conn.) scored on a rebound of a shot by junior forward Jordan Ragland (Westport, Conn.) with just under 20 minutes left to give Trinity a 3-0 lead.  Mountford stopped Brown on a breakaway after a pretty pass ahead by senior co-captain Chandler Solimine (Pelham, N.Y.) moments later to keep the Camel deficit at three, but Brown assisted Ragland on a final insurance goal on a 2-on-1 with 2:20 on the clock.  Mountford finished with 18 saves, while Berger extended her scoreless minutes streak to 238 with eight saves for her fourth shutout of the year.
