Trinity Men's Soccer Loses NESCAC Opener At Williams

Box Score

Williamstown, Mass. – The visiting Trinity College Bantams were beaten, 5-0, by the Williams College Ephs in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer opener for both teams this afternoon.  Trinity falls to 1-1 overall, while the Ephs jumped to a 4-0 lead at halftime on their way to the season-opening victory.  Trinity visits Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in its next game, and Williams hosts NESCAC rival Colby next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Williams forward Bobby Fabricant scored twice in a three-minute span and the Ephs led, 2-0, 15 minutes into the contest. A 23nd minute header from junior Chris Fleischer and a sharp curler from Gass in the 25th doubled the Ephs' lead once more.  Williams held a 12-to-5 shooting edge at halftime, and ended with 18 shots to nine for the Bantams.

Both of Trinity's best opportunities came in the second stanza but did not make a dent in the scoreboard. Junior forward Henry Farr (Philadelphia, Pa.) took a penalty kick in the 54th minute, which was blocked by Williams goalie Aaron Schein, and a 79th-minute goal from freshman defender Andrew Shea (Somerset, Mass.) was negated due to an offside call.  The lone goal of the second half was netted by the Ephs' Chris Fleischer, who tallied unassisted at 63:20.  Trinity sophomore goalie Andrew Clark (Short Hills, N.J.) played the first 64:40 and made seven saves and allowed five goals. Junior Griffin Patterson (New Canaan, Conn.) played the final 25:20 but did not face a shot-on-goal.  Eph goalkeeper Aaron Schein made three saves to record the clean sheet.
