Men's Soccer Drops Final Contest of 2019 against #1 Amherst

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College men's soccer team dropped its final game of the season Wednesday night, falling to top-ranked Amherst 1-0. The Bantams (1-13-1) challenged the Mammoths (13-0-2) on several occasions in the rainy conditions, but was unable to find the back of the net in the setback.

Amherst saw an exceptional performance from sophomore German Giammattei (Pinecrest, Fla.), who paced the Mammoth offense with a hat trick on the evening.

Just ten minutes into the opening frame, Giammattei opened the scoring for the visitors. A feed from freshman Ignacio Cubeddu (Davie, Fla.) centered the sophomore at the top of the 18, and a laser found its way past the diving hands of junior goalkeeper Andrew Clark (Short Hills, N.J.) for the score.

Giammattei finished the scoring in the first half with a 37th minute goal, this time on a touch feed from senior Dane Lind (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.).

Senior Jimmy McMillian (Kensington, Md.) opened the second half with his first goal of the season at the 52-minute marker, and Giammattei closed the scoring in the 54th minute on a serviced header inside the box.

The Bantams had several chances to find the back of the net, including a fantastic strike from 35 yards out off the foot of senior Michael Burns (Oreland, Pa.) that forced senior Will Dunne (Oak Park, Ill.) to make an outstanding save.

The Bantams will close out the 2019 season without a NESCAC win, despite playing a close match on every occasion. Trinity graduates four players from the program; Burns, Max Cottrell (Dover, Mass.), Massimo Eichner (Potomac, Md.), and Henry Farr (Philadelphia, Pa.).
