Women's Squash Returns to NESCAC Championship for 13th Consecutive Year

Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams opened New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Squash Championship Tournament play with a 9-0 victory over No. 8-seeded Wesleyan University and an 8-1 triumph versus No. 4-seeded Amherst College at home at the Kellner Squash Center this afternoon.  Trinity, ranked No. 3 in the nation, received a bye to the quarters as the top seed in the tournament field, and has won the conference crown in each of the 12 previous years of its existence.  Trinity, now 37-0 all-time in the NESCAC Tournament, will face the winner of No. 2-seeded Williams College and No. 3 seeded-Middlebury College in the finals tomorrow at noon. 

All nine of Trinity's wins versus Wesleyan came via scores of 3-0. Bantam rookie Nadiia Usenko (Kiev, Ukraine) dominated her opponent in the No. 6 match, allowing just three total points. Junior Vanessa Raj (Penang, Malaysia) yielded just five total points to her counterpart versus the Cardinals. In the Amherst match, all eight of Trinity's victories came via sweep as sophomore Akanksha Salunkhe (Vasco Da Gama, India) won 11-3, 11-2, 11-0, and classmate Min Jie Teh (Klang, Malaysia) and senior co-captain Jenny Haley (Newport, Wales) both allowed just five points each.
