Box Score Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity men's soccer program couldn't find the back of the net Wednesday afternoon, falling in non-conference action at Western New England, 2-0. A goal conceded midway through the first half was all the Golden Bears (6-1-1) needed, but a tally late in the second half iced the game, dropping the Bantams to 1-6 on the season.
Senior Brian Doyle (Southington, Conn.) started the scoring in the 20th minute on an unassisted free kick — from 40 yards out, Doyle used the wind at his back to strike a direct kick over sophomore Anes Gadun (Clinton, Conn.) and into the back of the net, giving the hosts an early 1-0 lead. In the 86th minute, Golden Bears senior Corey Brown (Somers, Conn.) was fed through Trinity's defense, forcing sophomore relief goaltender Everett Lyons (Southport, Conn.) off his line; a low-bending strike past Lyons ended the scoring, despite a handful of late opportunities from the visitors.
The Bantams finished with 12 shots total, finding the target twice; freshman Alex Guglielmo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) led the team with three shots (one on frame). Gadun took the loss, making three saves, while Lyons came on in the second half, making two saves.
The Bantams will look to regroup on Saturday, as it will play host to Bowdoin. Kick-off is slated for 12 p.m.
