Hartford, Conn. - Men's tennis junior co-captain Chris Bilicic (Chicago, Ill.) was honored as Trinity College's junior male scholar athlete of the year (Bob Harron Award) and joined senior co-captain Courtland Boyle Pembroke, Bermuda), senior William Frigerio (Villanova, Pa.), juniors Tanner Boyle (Pembroke, Bermuda), Granville Kaynor (New Orleans, La.) and Cole Wells (Franklin, Tenn.), and sophomores Charles Killborn (Winnetka, Ill.) and Ryan McGarvey (San Francisco, Calif.) on the 2019-20 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team thanks to their hard work in the classroom during the season. Courtland Boyle, Bilicic, and Killborn were also named to the 2020 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Spring All-Academic Team. Trinity, coached by Lori Shulman (5th Season), was set to head to the West Coast in March to begin its spring schedule in California when the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Trinity squad, coached by Lori Shulman (6th Season), also earned 2020 ITA All-Academic Team honors for having a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year). To earn NESCAC All-Academic, an individual must have reached sophomore academic standing, and be in good standing in their sport with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.
Bilicic is a three-time ITA All-Academic honoree and a repeat selection for NESCAC All-Academic Team. A two-year starter in singles and doubles for the Bantams, Bilicic was 1-3 in singles and 3-1 in doubles in the fall of 2019. A graduate of the Culver Academies in Indiana, Bilicic has a 3.94 g.p.a. as a political science major at Trinity. He is the son of Laura and George Bilicic.
Courtland Boyle, a three NESCAC All-Academic Team, was a two-time ITA All-Academic selection, was a doubles starter for each of his first three years with the Bantams. He was 1-2 in doubles and 1-1 in singles in the fall of 2019 and closes his Trinity career with a 17-33 doubles record and a 3-11 singles mark. Boyle is an alum of the Taft School in Connecticut, and graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in economics. He is the son of Megan and Courtland Boyle. Frigerio was 2-1 in singles and 1-2 in doubles in the fall of 2019, and closes his Trinity career with a 6-5 singles record and a 4-12 doubles mark. Frigerio is an alum of Radnor High School, and graduated from Trinity in May with a degree in political science. He is the son of Gregg and Shannon Frigerio.
Tanner Boyle was 1-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles in the fall of 2019. A graduate of the Berkshire School in Massachusetts, he is the son of Megan and Courtland Boyle. Kaynor, a two-year starter in singles and doubles for the Bantams, spent the 2019 fall semester studying abroad. A graduate of Metairie Park Country Day School, Kaynor is majoring in French and political science at Trinity. He is the son of Grace and Sandy Kaynor. Wells is a graduate of IMG Academy in Florida, and is majoring in Hispanic Studies and political science at Trinity. He is the son of Lindsay and Michael Wells.
Killborn, who repeats on the ITA All-Academic Team, was a singles starter as a rookie for the Bantams in 2018-19 and was 1-2 in both singles and doubles in the fall of 2019. A graduate of Lake Forest Academy, Killborn is majoring in public policy & law at Trinity. McGarvey is a graduate of Marin Catholic High School and is majoring in economics and psychology at Trinity. He is the son of Meredith and Mike McGarvey
