Trinity Volleyball Drops Double-Header to Bates, MIT

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College volleyball team went 0-2 in Saturday's double-header inside Oosting Gymnasium. Following a five-set win over Colby College last night, the Bantams battled Bates College for another five sets in the day's first match, but fell 15-10 in the final frame. Trinity then dropped its second match of the afternoon, falling in three sets to Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Trinity is now 8-12 overall with a 1-7 mark in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play. 
 
Match One vs Bates: 17-25, 25-22, 25-21, 19-25, 10-15. 
 
After dropping the day's first set to Bates 25-17, the Bantams rattled off two-straight wins in tightly contested games. Set two saw seven lead changes as Trinity secured the three-point victory with Sydney Cross-Watts producing the set's final kill. Riding high on the set-win, the Blue and Gold strung together four-straight points to open up set three. Bates would respond with four of its own but never managed to grab the lead. Trinity's Eva Lekovic and Lola Craig rounded out the team's second win of match with a pair of back-to-back kills.
 
With Bates leading 10-5 in set four, the Bantams put together its longest run of the afternoon with 10-straight points to take a five-point lead. The Bobcats responded with runs of five and six to force a fifth set with a 25-19 win. The final set of Saturday's first game inside Oosting Gymnasium saw Bates coming out strong with a 4-0 lead. Trinity would tie the score at 10 but was never able to take a lead as Bate closed out the match with five-straight points. 
 
Bates racked-up 18 service aces as Kate Hansen registered seven and Julia Neumann added six. Emma Eide had a stellar day for the Bobcats, recording an impressive 46 assists. 
Lekovic led Trinity with 12 kills while Craig and Ally Conde each recorded 11. Senior Locke Luhnow tallied 24 assists and Sophia Lobkowicz led the Bantams with 15 digs.
 
Match Two vs Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): 20-25, 15-25, 20-25.
 
Trinity and MIT were tied at 20 in the first set, but the Engineers were able to muster five unanswered points for the win. The Bantams scored the first point in of set two but that was the only lead they would hold for the remainder as MIT recorded the largest margin of victory of the match at 25-15. The Blue and Gold were once again on the board first in the third set which saw five lead changes throughout. The Engineers closed with three-straight kills to secure the 3-0 sweep over the Bantams. 
 
Allison Brattley led MIT with 14 kills while Emily Cheng posted 29 assists. Ottavia Personeni led her team with 21 digs. Trinity first-year Isabella Caffuzzi matched her career-best five kills.
