Women's Soccer Downs Connecticut College in Overtime

HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior captain Whitney Hoban of the Trinity College women's soccer team netted the game-winner on a penalty kick in overtime to take down conference foe Connecticut College, 2-1 on Tuesday night. The Bantams improve to 7-5-1 with a 3-4-1 mark in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play. Connecticut College picks up its second loss of the season, falling to 8-2-2 (5-2-1 NESCAC). Trinity will resume action Saturday when they host Middlebury College at 2 p.m. before playing its final regular season contest Tuesday, October 26 at Amherst College.

Hoban's game-winner was her second goal of the night, after registering the night's first tally in the second period (50:01) to give the Bantams a 1-0 lead. Her initial shot was originally saved before she fired again off of the rebound for the goal. Sophomore Cassie Lee earned her third assist of the season on the play.

The Camels had an opportunity to tie the game when Mya Johnson was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick. However, sophomore goalkeeper Mariana Cournoyer made an outstanding play to deny the goal, diving to her left to knock the ball away.

With just over five minutes in regulation remaining and Trinity looking like they would come away with a 1-0 win, Johnson made up for her missed penalty kick attempt by drilling the equalizer sending the game into overtime.

A foul in the box at the 2:58 mark gave the Bantams the break they were looking for as Hoban buried the walk-off goal for the victory. Cournoyer collected four saves en route to her third win in net this season. Hoban's two goals mark her third and fourth on the year and her second game-winner. Connecticut's Sarah Hall reregistered six saves in net
