Trinity Men's Soccer Edges Western Connecticut

HARTFORD, Conn. - Sophomore Quinn Ackman (Evanston, Ill.) scored the game's only goal, the first of his career, in the 22nd minute to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 1-0 victory over visiting Western Connecticut State University in men's soccer action this evening at Trinity Soccer Field. Trinity improves to 3-10 overall and snaps a five-game losing skid heading into Saturday's final home game against New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Middlebury at 11 a.m.  Western Connecticut sees its seven-game winning streak come to end, falling to 13-5, and will play at Mass.-Boston on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Both teams had a close chance early, beginning with a one-on-one chance by WestConn's Jordan Dacosta that sailed just over the net in the 10th minute and a rocket by Ackman that caromed off the crossbar moments later.  Ackman nailed the game-winner on a direct kick from 25 yards out that deflected off the Western Connecticut wall and out goalie Daniel Szabo's reach.

After an even first half statistically, Trinity controlled the ball for the majority of the second stanza, nearly scoring on several occasions including three more shots off the post or the bar.  Rookies Oliver Dahlen (Wilton, Conn.) and Owen McDermott (Williston, Vt.) both had near misses that banged off the goal.  Trinity sophomore goalkeeper Bernardo Simoes (Lisbon, Portugal) collected his third win of the year and his third career shutout with six saves.  Szabo matched Simoes with six stops but fell to 13-5.
