HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College men's soccer team battled Middlebury College through 110 minutes of scoreless action on Saturday afternoon picking up its first tie of the season, 0-0. Heading into their last game of the year which will take place Tuesday night at Amherst College, the Bantams sit at 3-10-1 with a 0-7-1 spot in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play. Middlebury tallied its second tie on the year, now holding a 9-3-2 record (4-3-2 NESCAC).
It was a physical game in Hartford on Saturday with 36 total fouls and five yellow cards amongst the two clubs. The Panthers outshot Trinity 18-10 but only put one more shot on goal than the Bantams (6-5) through four periods. Sophomore goalkeeper
Bernardo Simoes played an exceptional game in net for the Blue and Gold. He collected six saves to register his fourth shutout of his career. Ryan Grady recorded five saves for Middlebury.
One of Trinity's closet scoring attempts came at the 58-minute mark when senior defender
Pierce O'Malley riffled a shot over the outstretched goalkeeper and just missed as that the ball ricocheted off of the crossbar. Sophomore
Michael Traynor took four attempts for the Bantams, all of which were on target. Brandon Reid and Jordan Saint-Louis were the most persistent Panthers, each taking four shots and combining for three shots-on-goal.
