Trinity Volleyball Bested by Wesleyan University in Four Sets

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College volleyball team was bested by Wesleyan University, 3-1 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play Thursday night in Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams are now 10-13 (1-8 NESCAC) as they head into their season finale tomorrow night, hosting Connecticut College at 7 p.m. Wesleyan improves to 15-5 and sits in second place in the NESCAC standings with an 8-2 conference record. 
 
The Cardinals snatched the match's first two sets 25-17 and 25-16, respectively, despite Trinity's 5-0 start to the night. Set three opened with an exchanging of the first four points before a four point Bantam run, thanks to a kill from Ava Boloyan and two aces from Margaret McCarthy. Trailing 24-19, Wesleyan clawed its way back with three straight points, closing the deficit to two. Trinity senior Ally Conde put an end to the Cardinals run with a kill to close out the set and earn her team's first win of the match, 25-22. 
 
The final frame of the night was equally as exciting as its predecessor. The Bantams jumped out to a 5-1 lead as Boloyan, McCarthy and junior Molly Bernstein combined for four kills. Wesleyan grabbed its first lead of the set at 15-14 to which Trinity would never regain as the Cardinals closed out the match with a 25-22 fourth set triumph. 
 
Bernstein led the Bantams with eight kills while seniors Locke Luhnow and Natalia Ortiz led the team with 18 assists and 17 digs, respectively. Wesleyan's Maya Lopansri posted a game-high 43 assists. Michelle Jorba led the Cardinals with 12 kills while Jenna Otaola registered 28 digs.
