HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College volleyball team was defeated by Connecticut College in three straight sets (25-16, 28-26, 25-23) on Friday night at Oosting Gymnasium. The match served as the season finale for the Bantams who close out 2021 with a 10-15 overall record and a 1-9 mark in conference games. The Camels picked up their third New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) win and conclude the regular season with a 8-10 overall record.
Connecticut College opened the night with two-staight points and never lost the lead in an 11-point set one victory. The Bantams cleaned up their play in set two, bouncing back from an initial four-point deficit, as junior
Molly Bernstein put Trinity's first two points on the board with a kill and a block. Trailing 23-27, Trinity strung together a six-point run to tie the game at 23. Senior
Locke Luhnow tallied two aces while classmate
Hareena Johnson added a kill and Bernstein recorded a block and a kill of her own. The two teams then traded the next six points of the set before the Camels Natasha Shrivastava recorded a kill for the 28-26 win.
The final frame of the night saw four lead changes with both teams producing a pair of three-point runs which was the set's largest consecutive scoring output from either side. Shrivastava again finished things off for Connecticut College with a kill for the 25-23 victory as the Camels secured the sweep.
Four Trinity seniors were honored prior to game time as part of the Bantam's Senior Day festivities. Luhnow, Johnson,
Ally Conde and
Natalia Ortiz each played their final game in Blue and Gold on Friday night. Luhnow finishes her career with 661 assists which places her at 10
th all-time in program history while Conde's 137 career blocks places her at 15
th in the Trinity record book. Ortiz finishes the season with a team-high 273 digs while Johnson finished her career with exactly 300 digs and placed second on the team in 2021 with 173 digs through 22 games.
