HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team picked up a Homecoming victory over Bates College on Sunday afternoon with a final score of 3-1. Trinity improves to 8-1 with a 4-1 mark in conference play, after securing its second win over a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) team this weekend. Bates drops to 4-5 overall and holds a 1-4 record in NESCAC matchups. The Bantams will host Tufts University Saturday, Oct. 9 at noon.
Bates struck first when Kami Lambert capitalized on a penalty stroke opportunity just over seven minutes into action. However, the Bantams were able to quickly respond when senior
Caelin Flaherty forced the keeper to challenge her and dished to classmate
India Shay who knocked the ball into the open goal. Following the halftime break, Flaherty created space on a spin move and fired the ball into the bottom right corner of the cage to give Trinity a 2-1 lead. Flaherty later added a second goal for good measure with three minutes remaining in the fourth period on an assist from sophomore
Katrina Winfield.
Flaherty has now scored at least two goals five games this season and leads the NESCAC with 14 in total. Shay registered her fifth score on the year while Winfield tallied her fourth assist. Junior
Emma Cropper played all 60 minutes in goal for the Bantams, collecting three saves and posting her sixth win this season.
