Will Dorion (Needham, Mass.) had 12 points and six rebounds to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 65-57 win over the host Manhattanville College Valiants in the consolation game of the A.J. Buchanan Men's Basketball Classic this afternoon. Trinity, which rebounds from a 76-69 loss to Kean in the first round, improves to 3-1 with its sixth-straight win over the Valiants dating back to 1992. Manhattanville drops to 2-2. Trinity will next host Western New England on Tuesday in its home opener. Manhattanville travels to John Jay on Tuesday.
Trinity trailed early when Manhattanville went on a 9-0 run to go up 22-13 with 7:29 left in the first half. Unfazed, the Bantams battled back to tie it on a D.J. Smith (Providence, R.I.) three-pointer, assisted by
C.J. Redd (Peekskill, N.Y.) just over two minutes later. Dorion eventually gave Trinity the lead for good with 39 seconds in the first half on a three-pointer that made the score, 29-27.
The Bantams finished the game with four double-digit scorers. Smith and Redd both added 11 points and senior tri-captain
Tyler Mola (Leominster, Mass.) finished with 10 points. Senior tri-captain
Donald Jorden Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) grabbed a team-high eight boards and scored eight points. Trinity shot 46.9 percent from the field and held Manhattanville to a makes on just a third if its shots from the floor.
