Trinity Men's Basketball Sinks Springfield

HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior tri-captain Donald Jorden Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) had 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 87-64 win over the visiting Springfield College Pride in men's basketball action this evening on Ogrodnik Court in Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity improves to 5-2 and the Pride falls to 0-5.  The Bantams will visit Nichols next on Monday, December 6 at 6 p.m. and competes in the Ed Hockenbury Classic this weekend at Norwich. 

Trailing, 7-6, early after a Springfield 3-pointer by Jacob Morales, Trinity rattled off nine points in a row to lead, 15-7, with 13 minutes left in the first half.  Senior center Jared Whitt (Hanover, Mass.) and rookie guard Ethan McEachern (York, Maine) scored all nine during the Bantam run.  Senior tri-captain guard Tyler Mola (Leominster, Mass.) hit a trey with 9:06 on the clock to put the Bantams ahead by double digits at 25-16 and Trinity extended its advantage over through the half to lead 46-29 at the break thanks to jumper by junior guard Charles Redd (Peekskill, N.Y.) with 13 seconds left.  Trinity led by as many as 28 points in the second stanza on a free throw by sophomore Ben Callahan-Gold (New York, N.Y.) with 9:09 on the clock and played all 17 dressed team members.

Trinity dominated the glass with a 46-to-32 rebounding edge, scored 28 points in the paint, and 22 second-chance points.  Sophomore guard Gilbert Otoo (Burtonsville, Md.) matched Jorden, who was 9-for-10 from the foul line, with 13 points to go with five rebounds, while Redd scored 11 points, and Mola added 10 points.  Bantam junior forward Dana Smith (Providence, R.I.) grabbed seven rebounds, while McEachern collected seven points and nine assists and fellow rookie Will Dorion (Needham, Mass.) added five points, five rebounds, and five assists.  Daryl Costa paced Springfield with 16 points, sinking four of seven shots from long range.  Zeke Blauner had 12 points and Panayiotis Kapanides added 11 points for the Pride.
