Trinity Men's Basketball Stunned At Nichols In Overtime

DUDLEY, Mass. - Senior Jaekwon Spencer scored 25 points to lift the Nichols College Bison to an 85-82 overtime victory against the visiting Trinity College Bantams in men's basketball action this evening.  Trinity, which led by 19 points in the second half, falls to 5-3 heading into its final game of the fall semester on Saturday against CCNY at 1 p.m.  Nichols improves to 8-0.  Bantam junior guard C.J. Redd (Peekskill, N.Y.) matched Spencer with 25 points and added four rebounds and four assists.  Trinity controlled the boards with 51 rebounds to just 35 for the Bison.  Trinity senior tri-captain Donald Jorden (Tampa, Fla.) pulled down 17 boards to go with his 19 points, while junior forward Dana Smith (Providence, R.I.) had seven points and eight rebounds

Trinity led for all of regulation, beginning with the first bucket of the game by Redd.  The Bantams led, 35-30, at the break, as both Redd and sophomore guard Gilbert Otoo (Burtonsville, Md.) scored seven points, and went ahead by double figures for the first time at the 15:49 mark of the second stanza on a layup by senior forward Donald Jorden (Tampa, Fla.).  Redd hit a jumper with 12:48 on the clock to put Trinity ahead, 59-40, but the Bison used an 11-0 run to pull back to within seven points with eight minutes remaining.

Trinity's lead continued to dwindle until Nichols tied it on a layup by Matt Morrow that made it, 67-67, with 1:49 on the clock.  Jorden and Redd both gave the Bantams two-point leads in the final 90 seconds of regulation but the Bison tied it each time including for the final time at 71-all on two free throws by freshman Tahmeen Dupree.  In overtime, Dupree opened the scoring with a three-pointer and a trey by Spencer put the home team up, 80-75, with 2:47 remaining,  Trinity continued to fight and trailed just, 82-80, after a Redd jumper with 49 seconds left, but Dupree made three of four free throws down the stretch.
