Trinity Men's Lacrosse Drops Season Finale To Wesleyan

Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams led, 5-2, after one quarter but were outscored, 12-1, the rest of the way in a 14-6 setback against the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals in men's lacrosse action this afternoon at Jessee/Miller Field.  Trinity closes the year at 3-3 with its third loss in a row, while the Cardinals improve to 3-2.  Wesleyan had beaten Trinity, 16-12, on Sunday.

Trinity took a 3-1 lead in the game's opening five minutes on goals by junior attackman Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.), senior Jack Cahill (Medfield, Mass.), and sophomore Jackson Wood (Alexandria, Va.).  Two more goals by Wood and McCulloch, after a Cardinal tally by Kevin Moriarty, gave the home team a 5-3 lead with 4:21 left in the opening stanza.

Trinity went cold after that, going scoreless until a goal by first-year midfielder Andrew Bailey (Madison, N.J.) from sophomore Tucker Sheehan (Pomfret, Conn.) at the 4:33 mark of the third quarter and staying off the board the rest of the game from there.  Wesleyan scored three times in the second quarter to make the score, 5-5, at halftime, and Ronan Jacoby scored two of his game-high five goals early in the third quarter to give the Cardinals an 8-5 lead with 6:39 on the clock.  Jacoby scored again after Bailey's goal and the visitors outscored the Bantams, 5-0, in the final frame.

Statistically, the teams were fairly even with Trinity finishing with a 45-to-41 shooting advantage.  Wesleyan's 12 turnovers was three more than the Bantams (12-9), and Trinity rookie Dane Crowley (Pelham, N.Y.) won 19 of 23 faceoffs with a game-high 11 groundballs, but Cardinal goalie Max Powers came up with 22 saves to keep the Bantams off the board again and again.  Trinity first-year goalie Cooper Yaccino (Kenilworth, Ill.) had 14 stops, while Cahill and Sheehan also scooped three ground balls.  Jake Sexton had three goals and two assists and Jake Devlin collected two ground balls and two caused turnovers for Wesleyan.
