Trinity Volleyball Blanks Westfield State To Close Out Home Invitational

Hartford, Conn. - First-year Eva Lekovic (San Marino, Calif.) had a match-high 12 kills to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Westfield State University Owls in the final match of the Trinity College Volleyball Invitational this afternoon at Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity, which dropped a heartbreaker, 3-2, against the Simmons University Sharks earlier today and were blanked by the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors, 3-0, last night, to finish 1-2 in the tournament and are 2-2 for the season.  Westfield State also had a 3-2 loss to the Warriors today.  In the morning match, Simmons won against Eastern Connecticut, 3-2.  Bantam senior captain Locke Luhnow (Encino, Calif.) had 25 assists.

Against Simmons, Trinity took the first two sets by identical 25-23 scores, but the Sharks rallied to win the third, 25-22.  Simmons came out strong in the fourth set with a 25-11 victory and edged the Bantams, 15-13, in the deciding set.  Trinity senior captain Hareena Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif.) served up an ace late to make the score, 14-12, and a Shark error pulled the home to within one before Simmons clinched it on a Trinity attack error.  Lekovic also paced Trinity with 13 kills to go with six blocks against the Sharks.  Junior Molly Bernstein (Oakland, Calif.) had 10 blocks, while sophomore Sydney Cross-Watts (Denver, Colo.) had eight, and senior captain Ally Conde (Danielson, Conn.) had seven.  Both Bernstein and Cross-Watts added eight assists, while Luhnow had 15 assists, and sophomore Lola Craig (Los Angeles, Calif.) contributed 18 digs.
