Tansill Muldoon Families Support New Trinity Stadium

Hartford, Conn. - As the Bantams take the football field for the first time since November of 2019, their surroundings will look and feel and actually be much different. Spearheaded by the efforts and generosity of the Tansill and Muldoon Families, next door to both Jessee/Miller Field and Sheppard Field now stands a new stadium for the 2021-22 football, field hockey, and men's and women's lacrosse seasons.

Doug Tansill '61, P'91,'96, was the Trinity men's basketball captain in 1960-61, a valued member of the football team, and a javelin thrower in track and field. Tansill was regarded as a ferocious rebounder with a knack for scoring the ball on the basketball court, and as a calm and consistent athlete on all his Bantam teams. A nine-time, varsity letterwinner, Tansill received the highest award in Trinity Athletics, the Sheldon McCook Trophy, given for "distinction in athletics, manliness, courtesy, uprightness and honor at all times."

Tansill has continued to support Bantam athletics in countless ways for over 60 years and the new stadium on Jessee/Miller Field and Shepphard Field would not have been possible without the generosity of the Tansill and Muldoon Families.

"It's been our privilege—Art & Peyton's and mine and Dhuanne's—to be able to make this gift and help make this Tansill Muldoon Stadium happen at this particular time," said Tansill. I'm always reminded that about a third of our students are student-athletes. So it is a huge group of Trinity people who benefit from the opportunity to be a student-athlete and will benefit from these facilities."

Tansill Muldoon Stadium will house a plaque with the names of the Tansill and Muldoon family members in recognition of their contribution.

"For over a century, the Tansill family's success has been intertwined with that of Trinity College and our teams," said Trinity Athletic Director Drew Galbraith. "It is a legacy marked by competitive success, commitment to community and extraordinary philanthropic leadership. Scores of Trinity student-athletes and coaches have been fortunate to know the name and the history. Doug's level of connection with the institution and willingness to help are truly amazing. Many have benefited from Doug's mentoring, counsel and guidance. He's served as a sounding board to coaches, fellow alumni and current students. His resolve to push Trinity to be its best is unmatched and we are so fortunate for the support of Doug and his family."

This weekend's season-opening football game and NESCAC-opening field hockey contest will be preceded by a Stadium Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 10 a.m. This exciting weekend for Trinity sports, which also includes home men's and women's soccer games and volleyball matches, features the Trinity Athletics 2021 Hall of Fame Dinner on Friday night and a brunch reception on Saturday morning after the ribbon cutting.
