Trinity Football Blasts Bowdoin

Brunswick, Maine - Junior QB Spencer Fetter (Winter Park, Fla.) threw for 355 yards and three touchdowns, including 11 passes for 205 yards and one score to senior captain WR DeVante Reid (London, England), as the visiting Trinity College Bantams handed the Bowdoin College Polar Bears a 38-14 loss in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) football action this afternoon.  Trinity improves to 2-0 with its 21st-straight win over the Polar Bears and will host Middlebury on Saturday, October 2 at 1 p.m. in its Homecoming Game.  Bowdoin drops to 0-2 with its 12th setback in a row and welcomes Williams next weekend.

Trinity pounced on a late Bowdoin miscue to take a 17-0 lead at the half.  The Bantams had built a 10-7 lead on a pair of long drives, scoring on a 22-yard field goal by rookie Matt Jumes (Franklin, Mass.) and then capping a seven-play, 62-yard drive with a 40-yard touchdown pass Spencer Fetter to senior TE Jack Barrett (Holliston, Mass.).  Bowdoin marched down to the Trinity nine-yard line but Trinity junior S William Crowley (Milton, Mass.) stepped in front of a Griff Stalcup pass over the middle, to deny the Polar Bears a touchdown.  Trinity answered with a 10-play, 80-yard drive to finish the half, scoring on a Fetter pass to senior captain WR Jonathan Girard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) from 13 yards out to take a 17-0 advantage into the break.

The Bantams added to their lead with a William Kirby (Darien, Conn.) touchdown run to open the third quarter.  Following a bad snap on a Trinity punt, Bowdoin's Andre Eden scored his first collegiate touchdown with a 13-yard scamper to make it 24-7.  Another Kirby touchdown run made it, 31-7, Bantams, but Bowdoin responded and scored on a Stalcup run from 14 yards out to cut the lead to 31-14 with 11:53 to go.  Trinity added a late score on a 19-yard strike from Fetter to Reid to close out the scoring.

Fetter spread the wealth among his top three senior targets, as Girard finished six catches for 91 yards and Barrett caught two balls for 49 yards.  Kirby paced the Trinity ground game with 74 yards on 20 carries.  Eden had 46 yards rushing and Stalcup passed for 97 yards and rushed for 17 more for Bowdoin.  Trinity senior captain LB Brian Casagrande (Madison, Conn.) had six tackles and a sack, while classmate Noah Glantz (Scarsdale, N.Y.) disrupted Bowdoin on the defensive line with three tackles, a pair of forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.  Myles Hugee had ten tackles for the Polar Bears, while Joey Brink and Ty Jones-Garland had seven apiece.
