MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team was delt its first loss of the 2021 season Tuesday night, losing to Wesleyan 3-2 in a shootout (2-1) following two overtime periods. The Bantams are now 6-1 while the Cardinals improve to 3-4. Trinity plays next at Bowdoin College on Saturday at 11 a.m. with its homecoming following Sunday at noon against Bates College.

Riley Nichols 14 minutes into action. Wesleyan answered in the second period with a score from Diana Schwarz via Olivia Baglieri. The Bantams took their second lead of the game when Nichols and sophomore
Katrina Winfield collectively set up senior
Caelin Flaherty for the 2-1 goal in the third frame. With just five minutes to go in regulation, Schwarz knotted things back up at two apiece to send the game into overtime. Following 20 minutes of scoreless action, the Cardinals outshot Trinity 2-1 to secure the victory.
Nichols tallied her first two assists of her career while Flaherty leads the Bantams with 11 goals this season.
