Trinity Men's Soccer Blanks Western New England

Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams handed the visiting Western New England University Golden Bears a 2-0 loss in men's soccer action this evening at Trinity Soccer Field.  Bantam senior forward Logan Peterson (Nottingham, Md.) broke a scoreless tie in the 50th minute and sophomore Michael Traynor (Rye, N.Y.) added an insurance goal later in the second half.  Trinity improves to 2-5 and snaps a three-game losing skid entering a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) contest at Bowdoin on Saturday at noon. Western New England sees its three-game winning streak come to an end and drops to 6-2-1 with a home date against Suffolk on Saturday at 3 p.m. up next.

The game was scoreless at the half, as Bantam sophomore goalkeeper Bernardo Simoes (Lisbon, Portugal) made all five of his saves before the break to keep the Golden Bears off the board.  Peterson's first career goal was electric, as he kept a pass from rookie back Charles Kaldor (Larchmont, N.Y.) alive with his chest and then blasted the ball before it landed past Golden Bear goalie Brady Allen from the top of the box.  Trinity rookie Owen McDermott (Williston, Vt.) also earned an assist on the game-winning goal, and then fed Traynor from the left wing for the second goal of the game in the 68th minute.  Simoes improves to 2-3.  Allen and Colin Waltsak combined to make three stops for Western New England.  The teams each took 10 shots and committed eight fouls and the Golden Bears had the lone corner kick.
