Trinity Women's Soccer Slams Wheaton In Season Opener

Hartford, Conn. - Senior captain Caroline Sullivan (North Hampton, N.H.) scored twice to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 5-0 victory over the visiting Wheaton College Lyons in women's soccer action this evening at Trinity Soccer Field.  The game was Trinity's home opener, while the Lyons fall to 1-1.  Trinity hosts WPI on Friday at 7 p.m. in its next game and Wheaton plays at Bridgewater State on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Sullivan gave Trinity a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute with her first career goal on a header off a corner kick by sophomore Cassie Lee (Newton, Mass.), and scored on a nearly identical play exactly six minutes later.  In between Bantam junior forward Julianna Kennedy (Andover, Mass.) lofted in the game's second goal from 40 yards away, as the Bantams held a 3-0 lead at the half.  Sophomore forward Tori Simas (Newburyport, Mass.) and senior Brenna Hoar (Ludlow, Mass.) scored their first career goals in the second half, and Trinity senior goalie Jennifer Stuart (Newburyport, Mass.) improved to 1-0 while making just a single save.  Trinity dominated play with a 17-to-4 shooting advantage a 7-2 edge on corner kicks. Wheaton goalie Gabby Marcus made fives stops.
