NEW LONDON, Conn. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams posted a 66-38 victory over the Mitchell College Mariners in women's basketball action this evening at Yarnall Athletic Center. Reilly Campbell (Wallingford, Conn.) and
Tori Varsamis (Belmont, Mass.) led the way with 12 points apiece while
Bailey Hyland (Broad Brook, Conn.) chipped in 11. Dede Stevenson (Hartford, Conn./Capital Prep) paced Mitchell with 14 points. The Mariners, playing for the first time in 24 days, shot just 24 percent as a team and committed 21 turnovers. Trinity, winners of three games in five days, will host New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Wesleyan on Friday at 7 p.m. Mitchell, now 6-6, will next host Eastern Nazarene on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Trinity led, 18-16, after one quarter and extended its advantage to double digits in the second frame, as the Bantam defense held the Mariners to five points to lead, 32-21, at the break. Hyland led all scorers at halftime with eight points. Gallo's eight points highlighted a 19-6 scoring edge in the third for the visitors, who limited the Mariners to a single field goal in the period. Campbell netted eight of her 12 points in the final quarter, which saw the Bantams extend their lead to as many as 29. Trinity finished the game with a 37-29 advantage on the glass. Elizabeth Althoff (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy) led all players with eight rebounds. Stevenson, who hit four three-pointers on the night, also added team highs of seven rebounds and four steals. Turner contributed five boards, two assists and a block.
