HARTFORD, Conn. - Sophomore guard Billy Whelan (Hamilton, Mass.) scored 21 points and four steals off the bench to lead the visiting Connecticut College Camels to a 65-62 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's basketball action this afternoon on Ogrodnik Court in Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity falls to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in the NESCAC, while the Camels are now 7-6 overall and 2-2 in the league. Trinity senior tri-captain Donald Jorden, Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) had a monster game with 27 points and 14 boards. The Bantams visit conference rival Middlebury next on Friday, January 28 at 7 p.m. The Camels play at Albertus Magnus on Monday at 3 p.m.
Trinity led the entire first half, beginning with three free throws by junior guard
C.J. Redd (Peekskill, N.Y.) in the opening minute, and held a 26-17 lead with just under five minutes left before the break on a jumper by rookie guard
Will Dorion (Needham, Mass.). Jarron Flynn scored two late buckets for Connecticut College to pull the visitors to within two at 29-27 at halftime. Jorden led all scorers with 11 points in the first 20 minutes.

Dana Smith (Providence, R.I.) gave the Bantams a 38-31 advantage early in the second half, but the Camels chipped away and took their first lead at 49-47 on a Whelan 3-pointer at the 5:40 mark. Connecticut College slowly extended their lead and went ahead, 61-52, with under a minute left after four Whelan free throws. Trinity scored 10 points in the final 36 seconds to get close but ran out of time.
Both teams shot under 36 percent from the field and were a combined 9-for-45 from long range, but the Camels made 20 of 25 shots from the foul line to just 12 free throws in 17 attempts for the Bantams. Jorden was stellar, making 11 of 18 shots from the floor, while Redd added 11 points and seven rebounds. Trinity sophomore forward

Ethan McEachern (Portland, Oregon) dished seven assists. Cam Schainfeld had 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists, and Flynn scored 10 for the Camels.
