Trinity Women's Ice Hockey Stunned By Colby In Overtime

Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. - Bri Michaud-Nolan scored the game-winning goal with 1:46 left in overtime to lead the visiting Colby College Mules to a 2-1 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this afternoon at Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.  Trinity, which led, 1-0, for nearly all of the first 55 minutes of the game despite dressing only 14 skaters and one goalie, falls to 6-7-1 overall and 2-5 in the NESCAC with its fifth setback in a row.  Colby, ranked No. 10 in the nation, improves to 11-3 overall and 7-3 in the league.  Trinity hosts top-ranked Middlebury next weekend for a two-game series and Colby visits Hamiton for two next weekend.  Junior Olive Scull (South Strafford, Vt.) scored the Trinity goal and sophomore goaltender Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) made 46 saves for the Bantams.

Scull gave Trinity, which lost to Colby, 7-0, on Friday in the first game of the two-game set in Hartford, a 1-0 lead just 47 seconds into the game on a rebound of her own shot after classmate Stephanie Nevers (West Suffield, Conn.) had come up with a takeaway from the Mule defense. Colby outshot the Bantams, 15-6, in the first period but all were turned away.  In the second frame, both teams fought off nearly two minutes apiece of play while down two skaters as 28 combined shots were taken but the score remained the same.  Scull had a chance to give the Bantams a 2-0 lead late in the third period, but was denied by Colby goalie Nine Prunster, and the Mules tied the game with a short-handed goal by Lexi Cafiero with 4:29 on the clock.  Neither team threatened in the extra session prior to Michaud-Nolan's clincher, which came on a one-timer from Jillian Mazzocca's pass from right to left in front of the goal while the teams' played with the 3-on-3 overtime rules.
