WATERVILLE, Maine — In back-to-back road games, Trinity College volleyball's team delivered another 3-0 sweep, this time against Northeast Small College Athletic Conference opponent Colby College on Saturday (25-23, 25-23, 25-20). The Bantams improved to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the league, while Colby dropped to 8-3 and 3-2.
Eva Lekovic (San Marino, Calif.) led the team with 12 kills, 23 total attacks and an assist, while
Molly Bernstein (Oakland, Calif.) had six kills, 18 total attacks and a pair of solo blocks. Rookie
Caroline Howell (Houston, Texas) recorded a team-leading 19 assists and
Grace Sullivan (Fort Worth, Texas) notched a dozen.
Howell set the pace for the Bantams in the opening set and opened with a four-point serving run shortly followed by Bernstein's five-point serving run to put Trinity up 13-3.
With the score knotted at 21-21 in the next set, two-straight attack errors by the home team and a kill by Lekovic helped Trinity edge past Colby for the victory.
Seven consecutive kills in the third set propelled the Bantams to grab the 8-3 lead thanks to a trio of spikes by
Isabella Caffuzzi (Brooklyn, N.Y.), a pair by Lekovic and one from
Ava Boloyan (American Canyon, Calif.) and
Margaret McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.). With a 20-10 Trinity lead, a ten-point rally by Colby narrowed the gap before the visitors secured the 25-20 win.
Trinity returns home for a 7 p.m. contest against Mitchell College on Wednesday.
