BRUNSWICK, Maine – On the road, the Trinity College volleyball team dropped a trio of sets against New England Small College Athletic Conference opponent Bowdoin in an increasingly competitive match on Friday (25-13, 25-22, 26-24). The Bantams dropped to 6-10 and 2-5 against conference opponents, while the Polar Bears moved to 9-7 and 5-3.
Bowdoin sailed through the first set with a 5-1 run out of the gate and never trailed for the remainder of the set. The visitors opened the second set 8-4 before a four-point serving run by the Polar Bears knotted the game at eight a piece. After trailing 24-13, the Bantams made a late push to rally back within two thanks a kill by Molly Bernstein (Oakland, Calif.) set up by rookie Caroline Howell (Houston, Texas) followed by five-point serving run by Howell.
The home team seemed to be in good shape, leading 22-18 in the third, but Trinity scored five consecutive points to take a 23-22 lead. The Bantams were serving for the set, up 24-23, but Bowdoin rallied to score three straight and clinched the game with a kill by Jenna Robbins.
Sophomore Eva Lekovic (San Marino, Calif.) recorded nine kills, Bernstein tallied five and rookie Maggie Barnes (Fayettville, N.C.) notched a trio. Sophomore Isabella Caffuzzi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) delivered defensively for the Bantams with a pair of blocks.
