HARTFORD, Conn. — As the only senior for the Trinity College volleyball team,
Molly Bernstein (Oakland, Calif.) delivered an explosive performance on Senior Night to aid in the 3-0 sweep against non-conference foe Framingham State at home in Oosting Gymnasium on Tuesday (25-11, 25-19, 25-14). The Bantams improved to 8-12 overall, while the Rams fell to 16-11. Bernstein and
Lola Craig (Los Angeles, Calif.) accounted for almost half of the home team's 43 kills with 10 each and the duo both recorded 18 total attacks. Bernstein also notched a service ace, four solo blocks and trio of block assists, while Craig remained a force with a trio of serving aces and recorded a quarter of the Bantam's digs with a team-leading eight.
In the opening set, Trinity had seven unanswered points as rookie
Caroline Howell (Houston, Texas) went on a six-point serving run. With the Rams leading off the game, Bernstein etched the first point in the set with her first spike of the night setup by Howell, followed by kills from sophomoresÂ
Ava Boloyan (American Canyon, Calif.) and
Eva Lekovic (San Marino, Calif.). Bernstein had another kill in that seven-put run to put Trinity up, 6-0. Howell had a hand in all the Trinity kills during her serving run, while Bernstein also had a solo block and two block assists with Boloyan and Lekovic. The Rams' first point came off of a kill by Anna Szymansko to fire up the visitors and brought the score to 7-4 before Lekovic stopped the run with her second kill of the set as Trinity maintained the lead.
Framingham State came back strong to open the second set to put the team up 6-2 with three kills and a block assist. Trinity managed to knot the score 11-11 thanks to three kills by Craig, one each by Bernstein, Isabella Cafuzzi (Brooklyn, N.Y.),
Margaret McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.), and first-yearÂ
Maggie Barnes (Fayetteville. N.C.), while Bernstein also padded the score with a solo block. Trinity grasped it's first lead of the set with a service ace by
Kaila Dowd (Kennesaw, Ga.) and remained on top for the rest of the set.
In the final set, the Rams stayed close to Trinity until the score was 12-10 and the Bantams stacked their lead highlighted by kills from
Grace Sullivan (Fort Worth, Texas), McCarthy, Lekovic, Bernstein, Boloyan,
Morgan Clapp (New Canaan, Conn.) and Craig.
