Trinity Football Keeps Rolling With Win Against Bowdoin

HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior QB Spencer Fetter (Winter Park, Fla.) completed 20 of 26 passes for 361 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 38-3 victory over the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) football action this afternoon on Jessee/Miller Field at Tansill Muldoon Stadium.  Trinity remains perfect for the season at 7-0 with its final road game next weekend at Bates, while the Polar Bears fall to 2-5 and will visit Amherst next Saturday.  Trinity extends its winning streak over the Polar Bears to 22 games in a row.

The game started slowly for the Bantams who punted on their first drive and saw the Polar Bears drive to the Trinity 24-yard line on the first Bowdoin possession.  Trinity senior DL Christian Anzeveno (North Providence, R.I.) sacked Bowdoin QB Andrew Boel for a three-yard loss on 4th-and-4 to end the threat though.  Trinity marched to the Bowdoin eight-yard line later in the first quarter but a Fetter fumble on a handoff was recovered by Mike Randall for the Polar Bears.  Bowdoin advanced into Trinity territory again but Bantam DB Aidan Kennedy (Longmeadow, Mass.) broke up a pass on 4th-and-10 to end that drive early in the second quarter.

Trinity opened the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run by junior RB Colin McCabe (Madison, Conn.) at the 11:50 mark of the second frame, after the Bantams had gained 59 yards to the Polar Bear five-yard line on a fake punt that saw junior LB Dan Calderon (Levittown, N.Y.) take a direct snap and sprint untouched almost to the end zone.  Bowdoin took advantage of a muffed punt to get on the board, as Jotham Casey kicked a 23-yard field goal shortly after Slade Postemski had recovered the muff at the Trinity 16-yard line.  The Bantams broke the game open with two scores in a span of 2:24 just before halftime, as Fetter found WR DeVante Reid (London, England) for touchdown passes of 10 and 23 yards to give Trinity a 21-3 lead at the break.  Fetter had 209 passing yards at intermission.

Trinity scored twice and forced two Bowdoin punts in the third quarter, going ahead, 28-3, on a 21-yard pass from Fetter to TE Thomas Walsh (Pelham, N.Y.) and adding a 23-yard field goal by sophomore Matt Jumes (Franklin, Mass.).  Fetter tossed his fourth score to sophomore Sean Clapp (Wyckoff, N.J.), who finished the game with eight catches for 159 yards, for a 25-yard touchdown, while Bowdoin threatened twice late but could not convert.  Trinity DE Noah Glantz (Scarsdale, N.Y.) made a tackle for loss on a 4th-and-2 for Bowdoin from Trinity's 25-yard line to end Bowdoin's best chance for second-half points.

Trinity outgained Bowdoin, 550 to 240, and forced Bowdoin to misfire on 22 of 37 pass attempts.  Reid joined Clapp as a 100-yard receiver with five grabs for 115 yards, while several Trinity rushers combined for 189 yards on the ground.  Andrew Boel was 10-for-16 passing for 96 yards but left with an apparent injury and Robbie Long was 5-for-21 for 55 yards for the Polar Bears.  Brian Casagrande and Cooper Mandel (Ramsey, N.J.) had eight tackles each for Trinity, while Glantz had five tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.  Mandel also batted down two passes, Kennedy finished with four pass breakups, and senior LB Wigs Crowley (Milton, Mass.) had an interception for the Bantams.  Bowdoin's Max Jacobs led all tacklers with 10 and Koy Price made six tackles and broke up two passes.
