HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College football team, which is 3-0 and tied with Middlebury for first place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), will host the Hamilton College Continentals (1-1) on Saturday, October 8 at 1:30 p.m. Trinity, under the direction of Head Coach Jeff Devanney (17th season, 107-20), pummeled Amherst, 20-3, on the road last weekend. The Bantams lead the all-time series against Hamilton, 40-11-1, and has won the last 25 meetings dating back to 1994. Saturday is also Trinity Athletics Fall Pride Day on campus. In partnership with the College's Queer Resource Center, our teams will be supporting the Trevor Project, the world's largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for the LGBTQ+ community.
Trinity took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter at Amherst thanks to a 48-yard interception return to paydirt by senior S Hunter Tully (Taunton, Mass.) and a 27-yard scoring strike from senior QB Spencer Fetter (Winter Park, Fla.) to DeVante Reid (London, England). Sophomore K Matt Jumes (Franklin, Mass.) booted field goals of 39 and 34 yards in the second half. Fetter finished 21-for-36 for 237 yards through the air, including seven passes for a game-high 84 yards to sophomore WR Sean Clapp (Wyckoff, N.J.), while Bantam RBs Tyler DiNapoli (West Haven, Conn.), Will Kirby (Darien, Conn.) and Colin McCabe (Madison, Conn.) each rushed for over 50 yards. Senior DE Noah Glantz (Scarsdale, N.Y.) had four tackles and a sack, while senior CB Justin O'Neil Riley (Dorchester, Mass.) made three tackles and intercepted two passes.
Trinity tops the NESCAC in total defense (225.7), rushing defense (41.0), first downs allowed (37), and time of possession (34:10 per game). Fetter ranks second in the league in passing in terms of both yards (919) and efficiency (138.5), and total offense (248.3 ypg), while DiNapoli is third and Kirby is eighth in the conference with 226 and 165 rushing yards, respectively. Clapp is tied as the eighth-leading receiver in the league with 12 catches for 191 yards (9th in NESCAC). DiNapoli also ranks fifth in all-purpose yards with 334. On defense, captain and ILB Brian Casagrande (Madison, Conn.) leads the Bantams in tackles with 22, while Glantz and senior Lucas Folan (Weymouth, Mass.) are tied for fifth in the league in sacks with two apiece.
The Hamilton College football team, coached by Dave Murray, suffered a 49-14 loss against Wesleyan last Saturday. Hamilton QB Matt Banbury has thrown for 536 yards and three touchdowns with one interception, while Kamau Hopewell has a team-high 178 rushing yards (6th in NESCAC) with three touchdowns.
