HARTFORD, Conn. — With a two-point advantage for the Trinity College women's basketball team and 52 seconds remaining on the clock, five successful free throws by Bria Fuller (Springdale, Md.) (2), Indi DelRocco (Branford, Conn.) (2) and Tori Varsamis (Belmont, Mass.) (1) padded the lead the Bantams in the 59-54 triumph over Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday. Trinity remains undefeated to open the season with a 2-0 overall record, while the Warriors stay winless at 0-2.

Back-to-back jumpers by Reilly Campbell (Wallingford, Conn.) and DelRocco set the pace for the Bantams in the opening minutes before Anna Barry notched a pair three minutes into the first quarter for Eastern. The home team continued to lead in the first after a steal by Frankie Silva (Auburndale, Mass.) led to a another jumper by Campbell, this time in the paint to out Trinity up, 10-4 before the junior went to the line 20 seconds later and connected on both free throw attempts.

A jumper and a layup by Campbell followed by a layup by Emma Wax (Pine Brook, N.J.) in the second quarter curated the widest lead of the game for Trinity and put the team up, 20-8. At the line, Barry etched the first point of the quarter for Eastern ignited a 10-2 run for the visitors, with the halftime score of 22-18. Barry, who would eventually put up her 1,000 career point as a Warrior, dominated the run with a trio of layups, while teammate Danielle O'Brien stepped back over the arc before the rock swished for a three pointer. 

The second quarter changed the pace for Eastern as eight-straight points narrowed the deficit by two before a layup in the paint by Fuller shutdown the unanswered run and put Trinity up, 31-27. A jumper and a layup by Barry secured the first tie of the contest but the Warriors couldn't muster the momentum to take the lead before Campbell's jumper from Hannah Marzo (Shrewsbury, mass.) put the Bantams up 33-31 in the final second of the third quarter.

The tie didn't deter Trinity as it came out shooting in the final quarter and Campbell went airborne with a layup through traffic 30 seconds into the quarter with the assist from DelRocco. Halfway through the fourth, Wax's fastbreak layup in the paint put Trinity up 41-37 before nine more Trinity puts were put on the board. Down by eight with three and a half minutes remaining switched the Eastern's strategy to fouling Bantams and slowed the speed of the game before the final buzzer, 59-54.

Campbell tied her career-high points with 25 with 15 rebounds for the double-double. The center also went three-for-three at the line and tallied a block. Fuller extend the scoring for Trinity with 12 points, while DelRocco and Wax recorded eight. Silva aided the offense with a pair of steals, a trio of blocks and five assists. Trinity capitalized on nine turnovers, nine second-chance points and 32 buckets made in the paint, but Eastern's benched doubled up on points compared to the Bantams six. 

Trinity sets out of its first road trip to Connecticut College, who split its two opening games, on Friday at 7 p.m. in New London, Conn.
