Women's Basketball Slides Past Connecticut College in First Road Contest, 52-44

NEW LONDON, Conn. — In the first road game of the season, the Trinity College women's basketball outlasted Connecticut College in the non-conference play, 52-44, on Friday at Luce Field House. The Bantams remain perfect on the season with a 3-0 overall record, while the Camels dropped to 1-2 on the season.

Connecticut trailed by 19 in the fourth quarter but rallied back with 16 unanswered points, cutting the deficit to 47-44 with 1:22 remaining in the contest. The Bantams, however, held on by scoring five points in the final minute, ignited by Emma Waxs (Pine Brook, N.J.) two-point jumper with 52 seconds on the clock.

Trinity heated up in the opening seconds of the game with quick and dirty jumper by Indi DelRocco (Branford, Conn.) 20 seconds into the game and the Bantams never cooled off to secure their triumph thus far. Wax followed up with her first bucket of the night 37 seconds later after the junior nabbed the rebound off a missed three by Hallie O'Toole. Driving in the paint, Reilly Campbell (Wallingford, Conn.) made a smooth layup off the pass from Wax after Campbell denied Rebec Oberman-Levine from notching the first points for the home team.

To complete the 8-0 run, Campbell connected with the net for a jumper in the paint after Wax's rebound on the other side of the court. Jaycie Rojik's jumper etched the first points for the Camels at 5:51 in the opening quarter.

The second quarter was turnover heavy as Bantams and Camels each drew a trio before Oberman-Levine's jumper in the paint snapped the stalemate. Tori Varsamis (Belmont, Mass.) retaliated with a beautiful three-pointer from DelRocco and the first bucket from behind the arc by the visitors. Bria Fuller (Springdale, Md.) came alive in the final two minutes before the half as the guard went to the line twice and went airborne for a layup off her own defensive rebound. Fuller connected on both her free throws and put up Trinity 25-13 before going into the locker room during the half. Fuller's momentum carried after the break with a jumper in the paint 15 seconds into the third quarter.

Five points for Connecticut shortned the deficit to four before a 13-0 run by the Bantams widened the lead to 40-23. Campbell had her hand in four of the seven buckets and fired up the visitors with a jumper in the paint from DelRocco. Rojik missed the jumper and allowed for Campbell to snatch the rock as Wax capitalized on an unassisted jumper in the paint, followed by another jumper by Wax.

Alaina Holmes (Troy, N.Y.) put up her first points off the night with a perfectly timed layup thanks to Campbell's pass before a quick foul by Molly Cronin sent the forward to the line for a three-point opportunity. Holmes capitalized on the foul and turned her two-point bucket into a three-point play. The unanswered run continued as Hannah Marzo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) forced the turnover and got a steal before Fuller's layup in the paint. Off her own defensive rebound, Campbell finished the run with a layup in the paint to put Trinity up, 40-23.

Trinity is back at home on November 27 at 3 p.m. with Smith College.
