Trinity Wins A.J. Buchanan Men's Basketball Classic Title

Bantams Take Down Host Manhattanville In Tournament Finals

HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior captain C.J. Redd (Peekskill, N.Y.) had 19 points and five rebounds to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 70-43 win over the Manhattanville College Valiants in the finals of the A.J. Buchanan Men's Basketball Classic this evening at Kennedy Gymnasium.  Trinity improves to 3-0, winning the title with today's win and an 86-75 victory over Gwynedd Mercy in the semifinals last night.  Redd, who scored 25 points on Friday, was named the tournament MVP.  The Bantams return home to host Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The game was tight and low scoring for the entire first half, as Trinity sophomore forward Sean Macarchuk (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) scored inside in the final minute to give Trinity a 25-21 lead the break.  Macarchuk and Redd both had eight points at intermission.  Redd went 3-for-3 from long range early in the first 3:09 of the second half to open up a double-digit lead for the Bantams, and Trinity dominated from that point on.  Bantam rookie Henry Vetter (Kenilworth, Ill.), who scored 11 points tonight and was in double digits in each game, joined Redd on the all-tournament team.  Trinity outrebounded the Valiants, 51-29, led by junior captain Ben Callahan-Gold (New York, N.Y.) who finished the game with 10 points and seven boards.
