Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Trinity Men's Basketball Sinks Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior captain Ben Callahan-Gold (New York, N.Y.) had 19 points, all in the first half, 11 rebounds, and two blocks to lead the visiting Springfield College Pride in men's basketball action this evening at Blake Arena. Trinity improves to 6-0 for the first time since 2007-08 and has won all six games by double digits.  Springfield falls to 1-5 with its fourth loss in a row.  The Bantams will visit Wheaton College next on Saturday at 3 p.m.  Callahan-Gold canned five trifectas in the opening 20 minutes, while senior captain guard Joseph Hoch (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) added 15 points off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting from deep in the game.  The Bantams owned a 41-35 cushion on the glass and scored 20 points off 20 Springfield turnovers.

Springfield led, 19-15, early but the Bantams responded with the game's next five points to go ahead, 20-19 lead, on a Hoch trey.  The Pride went back ahead, 28-25, before Callahan-Gold drilled three consecutive triples for Trinity as part of an 11-0 run to give them a 36-28 advantage at 4:26.  A freebie from John Paulino (New Bedford, Mass.) with 2:02 remaining in the half pulled Springfield within 38-34, but the Bantams scored the final seven points of the frame to head into halftime with a 45-34 cushion.

The Pride netted the first seven points of the second half just under 90 seconds into the frame.  Trinity answered with a 15-5 surge over the next four-plus minutes to have its lead balloon to 60-46 on a triple from Hoch, but the Pride pushed back with an 8-2 burst of its own to make it a 62-54 ballgame. The Bantams poured on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 16 points with 6:23 remaining, and maintained a comfortable cushion the rest of the way.

Trinity senior captain C.J. Redd (Peekskill, N.Y.) and junior Gilbert Otoo (Burtonsville, Md.) had 14 points and 12 points, respectively, for Trinity, while Redd also grabbed six rebounds and three assists.  Sophomore guard Will Dorion (Needham, Mass.) made four steals and rookie forward Jarrel Okorougo (Stoneham, Mass.) contributed seven rebounds and three steals for the Bantams.  Andrew Rocci paced the Pride in scoring with 17 points.
