Trinity Men's Basketball Wins At Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. - The Trinity College men's basketball team outlasted the Wheaton College Lyons, 73-69, at Emerson Gymnasium. The victory pushes the Bantam to a 7-0 record for the first time since 2006-07 and Wheaton drops to 3-.4 Trinity returns home to play against Anna Maria on Monday at 7:30 p.m.  Four of the five Bantam starters scored at least 10 points, led by juniors Ben Callahan-Gold (New York, N.Y.) and Gilbert Otoo (Burtonsville, Md.) with 12 points apiece. 

The nail-biter of a game started in Wheaton's favor with the Lyons opening up leads of 9-3, 14-7, and, 20-12. but Trinity reversed its fortunes with a 19-5 run over 10 minutes late in the first half.  Trinity sophomore forward Sean Macarchuk (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) scored on an offensive rebound to put Trinity up for the first time, 27-25, at the 4:16 mark. The Bantams went ahead, 31-25, after a steal and a free throw by first-year Henry Vetter (Kenilworth, Ill.) shortly before intermission, but Wheaton's Aaron Williams drilled a three-pointer to make the score, 31-28, at the break and give him 15 points in the first 20 minutes.

Wheaton gave Trinity a run for their money in the second half, with multiple lead changes over the first 10 minutes. A jumper with 9:06 to go by rookie forward Jarrel Okorougo (Stoneham, Mass.) put Trinity up by one, 58-57. Ty Murphy tied it at 67-all on a trey with 3:06 on the clock and the score stayed there until a Callahan-Gold layup put Trinity up by two with 1:40 remaining. The teams traded buckets, before Trinity sophomore guard Will Dorion (Needham, Mass.) calmly sank two free throws to make it a two-possession game with 12 seconds left on the clock. An Okorougo steal and offensive rebound shortly after sealed the game.

Dorion joined the two Bantam juniors in double figures in scoring with 10 points and added six rebounds.  Trinity senior captain C.J Redd (Peekskill, N.Y) also scored 10 points, while  Okorougo came up big off the bench with defense with nine rebounds, six points, a block and a steal. Williams was a force with 30 points and eight boards, while Eoin Morrissey grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.  Wheaton made 12 of 28 shots from long range.
