A pair of Prattson Goals Not Enough in 3-2 Loss with Amherst

Riley Prattson notched both goals for the Bantams in the second and third periods.

AMHERST, Mass. — Riley Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) netted two goals for the Trinity College men's ice hockey team on the road at Amherst College was not enough as three-straight Mammoth goals put the home team up in a 3-2 loss on Saturday. The Bantams moved to 3-3 on the season and 2-2 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, while Amherst improved 4-4-1 and 3-0. Trinity returns home on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with Babson at 4 p.m in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.

The scoreboard saw no love through the first twenty minutes before Prattson drilled the puck into the back of the net two minutes into the second period off the pass from Kyle Tomaso (Newport, R.I.) who received the puck from Jacob Borgida (Minneapolis, Minn.).Trinity maintained that lead until Ben Kuzma put the home team on the board and scored the 1-1 equalizer almost 14 minutes later. With three minutes remaining in the second stanza, Quinton Fox took the lead for the Mammoths before an insurance goal by Josh Burke connected 1:46 into the third period. Prattson narrowed the deficit to within one after first-year David Paluch (Burlington, Ontario) sent the puck to Casey Rhodes (Huntington Beach, Calif.) who set up the senior's second goal of the contest.

Amherst had six powerplay opportunities but couldn't capitalize off the shorthanded Bantams and Trinity had one unsuccessful powerplay attempt. The home team held a solid defensive line with seven blocked shots and Alex Wisco made 27 saves in the cage, with 11 stemming from the opening period. In the cage for Trinity, J.P. Mella (Stamford, Conn.) stopped 20 Mammoth pucks as nine came in the second period. Trinity had 14 chances to connect with the equalizer but Wisco saved eight and six where knocked away by defenders.
