Four Men's Basketball Players in Double Digits Fed 91-61 Blowout Over Anna Maria

HARTFORD, Conn. — Through the first fourteen minutes of the opening half, Anna Maria looked well organized on the hardwood, but a quartet of Trinity College men's basketball stars padded the win with double digit points as Ben Callahan-Gold (16) (New York, N.Y.), Henry Vetter (14) (Kenliworth, Ill.), C.J. Redd (13) (Peekskill, N.Y.) and Gilbert Otoo (12) (Burtonsville, Md.) dominated in the 91-61 blowout over Anna Maria in Oosting Gymnasium on Monday. The Bantams remain undefeated as they improved to 8-0 on the season, while the Amcats dropped to 1-6. Trinity is back in action on Friday at 6 p.m. against CCNY for the team's Pride Day game.

Otoo's layup in the paint after Will Dorion's (Needham, Mass.) steal ignited the changing of the tides for the Bantams, who never lost the lead after, and put Trinity up 28-26. The visitors notched the first points with a three-pointer off the fingertips of Trevian Grenon 27 seconds into the game followed by a pair by Jayden Dickerson before Sean Macarchuk (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) wiped the zero off the board with a three point jumper off the pass from Redd. Callahan-Gold pulled up for back-to-back threes with assists from Redd and Dorion for the 9-7 lead. The teams went back and forth in the first fourteen times with four ties and 11 lead changes before Callahan-Gold's equalizing unassisted jumper with 6:54 remaining knotted the game at 26, before Otoo's layup secured the lead for the remainder of the contest. The Bantams scored 15 more points in the half as Callahan-Gold's blocked three-pointer attempt by Dickerson with 19 seconds left denied the Amcats a chance to cut the deficit to five and sent the teams into the locker room with the scoreboard at 43-35. Trinity took a strong lead with 10 points off turnovers committed by Anna Maria while the visitors added two points.

Anna Maria was held to 26 points in the second half as the home team put up 48 and the bench came alive for Trinity with 35 points. The foul-heavy second started early after halftime  as Otoo went to the line 23 seconds in the second. A three-point pullup jumper by Christian Armstead narrowed the deficit to within six, but four straight three-pointers by Callahan-Gold, Redd and Otoo revved up the lead for the Bantams. With Jarrel Okorougo (Stoneham, Mass.) posted up in front of the basket, Dorion sent a lofty pass to the first-year for a monster dunk over two Amcat defenders all thanks to a defensive rebound by Macarchuk. A layup in the paint by Alex Douglas (Elmont, N.Y.) sprouted the largest lead for the Bantams with a +32 margin with 31 seconds to go, before Joacine Stevens layup in the paint 10 seconds later sealed the 91-61 victory.

Dorion led the team with a career-high 14 assists and Macarchuk dominated under the basket with eight rebounds, including five on defense. Trinity had 13 second chance points, while Anna Maria converted for seven. Thirty-four points for the Navy & Gold came in the paint, while only 14 were made by the Amcats. Trinity's bench notched 35 points and the team converted on 20 turnovers.
