Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Doubles Up Wesleyan To End Regular Season With Five Straight Wins

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams came back from 2-0 down to score five unanswered goals en route to a 6-3 victory over the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey action this afternoon at Williams Rink in Koeppel Community Sports Center.  Trinity closes the regular season on a six-game unbeaten streak and with five wins in a row, and are now 14-7-1 overall and finish 12-5-1 in the NESCAC. Wesleyan ends up at 10-11-3 overall and 8-7-3 in the conference.

Trinity trailed, 2-0, 11:22 into the first period thanks to Wesleyan goals by Go Uemura on a power play and Danny Sorabella during a Bantam power play.  Trinity senior forward Connor Sundquist (South Glastonbury, Conn.) got the Bantams on the board with 2:56 left in the opening stanza with a goal from rookies Alexander Mozian (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and Casey Rhodes (Huntington Beach, Calif.).  Trinity outshot the Cardinals, 17-7, in the opening 20 minutes but trailed, 2-1.

The teams managed just 13 shots combined in the second period, but the Bantams lit the lamp on three of their six to take a 4-2 lead.  Rookie Richard Boysen (Belle Vernon, Pa.) tied the score at 2-2 from junior Paul Selleck (Laguna Hills, Calif.) 7:37 after the first intermission, and first-year Theodore Griffin (Marshfield, Mass.) stole a pass from the Wesleyan defense right in front of the net and shot the puck past Wesleyan goalie Erik Voloshin during a Trinity power play for the go-ahead tally.  The Bantams scored again with the extra skater with 36 seconds left in the second period on a rebound by sophomore Gerard Maretta (Brick, N.J.) after a shot from the point by classmate John Campomenosi (Wayne, N.J.).

Junior Riley Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) scored on Selleck's second assist of the game 1:14 into the final frame, but Uemura answered for Wesleyan later in the period to make it, 5-3, 5:28 on the clock.  Rhodes stole the puck from Wesleyan with Voloshin out late and added an empty netter.  Trinity sophomore J.P Mella (Stamford, Conn.) made 16 saves in two periods of relief work to earn the win in net.  Voloshin finished with 27 stops.
